Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers to commonly asked questions about the CLIMARA PRO® patch.

Why a patch?

The CLIMARA PRO patch transdermal system delivers a continuous low dose of estrogen and progestin directly into the bloodstream without first going through the liver, making it an efficient form of hormone therapy. It also offers once-a-week convenience so you don't have to remember to take a daily pill, plus the total dose of estrogen is lower than a pill.

What is the CLIMARA PRO patch?

The CLIMARA PRO patch is the transparent once-a-week hormone therapy system. The CLIMARA PRO patch is intended for the relief of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause (hot flashes, night sweats). The CLIMARA PRO patch uses 3M technology to help make sure that the patch stays on for an entire week.

How do I apply the CLIMARA PRO patch?

The CLIMARA PRO patch is very easy to apply. Read through the steps below as you apply your first few patches. Soon, you'll find you're following the steps automatically.

  1. Step 1

Each CLIMARA PRO patch comes sealed in its own protective pouch. Never cut the pouch or patch with scissors.

  2. Step 2

To open the pouch, hold it with the CLIMARA PRO name facing you.

  3. Step 3

Tear off the top of the pouch using the top-tear notch.

  4. Step 4

Tear off the side of the pouch using the side-tear notch.

  5. Step 5

Pull the pouch open. The CLIMARA PRO patch is attached to a clear, thicker plastic liner.

  6. Step 6

Lift out the CLIMARA PRO patch.

  7. Step 7

Notice that the CLIMARA PRO patch is attached to the clear, thicker hard-plastic liner and that the patch itself is translucent with a matte finish. The patch should be applied to clean, dry, unbroken skin on the lower abdomen below your belly button. Avoid your waistline.

  8. Step 8

Gently fold the patch to release the pull tab on the backing.

  9. Step 9

Then pull the tab to the side to peel the backing away from the CLIMARA PRO patch.

  10. Step 10

Do not apply the CLIMARA PRO patch to your breasts. Peel the protective backing away from one side of the CLIMARA PRO patch. Avoid touching the sticky side. Press the exposed half of the patch to the skin for about 10 seconds, applying firm pressure. Then peel the backing off the remaining side. Press the entire patch firmly to your skin for about 10 more seconds, making sure there are no air bubbles under it. Discard the backing. Don't apply lotion or powder to the area.

Your patch should now stay in place for an entire week. You can go about all of your normal activities knowing that you are getting the estrogen and progestin you need for 7 days, until it's time to put on a new patch.

Please note: just as with a bandage, the CLIMARA PRO patch can become loose if rubbed too much. Take care when drying off after your bath or shower and when dressing and undressing. Alternate skin sites when you change your CLIMARA PRO patch. The same skin site should not be used 2 weeks in a row.
